Abel Perry began competition in October of 2000. He had no amateur career because of the lack of a prominent amateur program in Alaska.
In the summer of 2005 Perry set off to Las Vegas, Nevada, and trained at Top Rank Boxing Gym. He started his career fast, moving to 3-0.
In December of 2005, Perry found himself at odds with his management. After Perry's attempts to reconcile were dismissed, he suffered further issues with his family, and an injury that forced him into over a year-long lay-off. During that time he centered his life in areas of faith and family.
Perry moved to Portland, Oregon in February of 2006 to train at the Grand Avenue Boxing Gym. With all things in place, Pefrry made his return to the ring in impressive fashion, via a win over Jess Salway (2-3-1) in January of 2007.
